Brett McMurphy of the Action Network recently released his 2023 early college football bowl predictions. The prediction pitted BYU and Pac-12 foe Washington State against one another in the 2023 Radience Technologies Independence Bowl. McMurphy explained in a tweet that the contract for BYU to play in the Independence Bowl for the 2023 season, a contract agreed upon before BYU was invited to the Big 12, will follow them into the new conference.

BYU is not locked into the bowl game though. BYU’s bowl selection will depend on their record in the 2023 season. While it’s unlikely, if BYU were to win the Big 12 conference title, it is likely they would play in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl if they didn’t make the College Football Playoff. McMurphy predicted Texas Tech to win the Big 12 title and has them slated to play Alabama in the Cotton Bowl. The Red Raiders are set to visit Provo on October 21st in what could be a highly anticipated matchup for BYU fans.

McMurphy also had in-state rival Utah making a bowl game, slated to face Nebraska in the Las Vegas bowl. The Utes would be the Pac-12 runner-up behind the Washington Huskies who McMurphy has as a playoff team. BYU and Utah were the only two teams in the state that McMurphy has making a bowl game.
