BYU football players 1-25: No. 3 Max Tooley

Max Tooley enters the 2023 season as one of BYU’s top defensive playmakers, if not the top player on the roster capable of making game-altering plays on the defensive side of the football. The 6-foot-2, 225 pound senior was hampered with injury last season, unfortunately, and subsequently added necessary weight in the offseason in an effort to make himself more durable. Should he receive a clean bill of health throughout 2023, it’s reasonable to expect him to be on top of the stat sheet in several defensive categories.

“Max Tooley is one of the most entertaining players we’ve seen on the BYU defense in the Kalani Sitake era,” said Ben Criddle, host of Cougar Sports with Ben Criddle on ESPN960. “He does great getting into passing lanes, making plays on the ball in the air, but he also comes downhill as violently as any BYU players we’ve seen over the last 20 years. He packs a punch that is singular and hopefully the added weight makes him more durable so he can play throughout the entire season.
