Ben Bywater was the Cougar football team’s top tackler a year ago, and is a good bet to reprise that feat again this season. The 6-foot-3, 235 pound junior from Olympus High School has proven durable throughout his career and notched 98 tackles a season ago from the middle linebacker position. He’ll man that position again this season where he’ll likely assert himself as a top playmaker on defense, if not the top playmaker.

Will McClay and the #Cowboys scouts are going to enjoy the 2024 LB class. DAL likes LBs with positional flex capabilities. There are a number of versatile athletic types that fit the mold, including Bywater who’s all over the yard #P6SProspectWatch pic.twitter.com/PwKPffC54b

“Ben is big, fast, strong and smart,” said Ben Criddle, host of Cougar Sports with Ben Criddle on ESPN960. “The fact that he was lighty-recruited while playing little football in high school, and is now playing as a top linebacker at a program like BYU — a program that has included stars like Cameron Jensen, Rob Morris, Kyle Van Noy and several others — that speaks volumes about him as a player and as a coaching staff that developed him.”
