Ross, Moeaki, Wilson, Baker, and Fely with big games: BYU Football Prep Tracker Week 5

In week five of prep action BYU tight end commits Cooper Ross and Noah Moeaki each had a pair of touchdown receptions, while linebackers Micah Wilson and Easton Baker each scored defensive touchdowns and defensive lineman Braxton Fely had 2.5 sacks.

Cooper Ross saw his first action of the season as Heritage Academy kicked off their season.  And he made the most of it with five receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns on offense and twoo tackles, a sack and a 15 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown on defense. Noah Moeaki had two touchdown receptions for American Fork.

Micah Wilson had three tackles (two solo) and a 26 yard pick six for nationally ranked Corner Canyon (no. 16). Easton Baker had seven tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble scoop and score for a 45 yard touchdown in just one half in Stansbury’s blowout win. Braxton Fely continues to impress.  This week he had four tackles and 2.5 sacks to stay on the Utah leaderboard for sacks and tackles for loss.

Here is a breakdown for each of the BYU commits:

Class of 2022 Commits

  • Kaden Chidester (@Kaden_Chid, ATH).  Richfield HS (Richfield, Utah, 1-4) fell to South Sevier 10-7.  Chidester had five tackles (four solo) in the game. Season totals: Five games; 14 tackles (nine solo), three passes defended, six quarterback hurries, one sack, one blocked field goal, one blocked PAT.
  • Cannon DeVries (@CannonDevries, WR/FS). Weber HS (Pleasant View, Utah, 3-2) won their third straight game with a 34-32 victory over Syracuse.  DeVries had one carry for seven yards, and seven receptions for 75 yards.  He also had six tackles on defense. Season totals: five games, 27 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns, six carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns, 185 return yards, 40 tackles, one tackle for loss, one blocked field goal, and two interceptions.
  • Peter Falaniko (@FalanikoPeter, OL). Pine View HS (St. George, Utah, 4-1) had their first loss of the season, falling to rival Dixie 31-28.  Falaniko recorded no stats. Season totals: five games, no stats.
  • Braxton Fely (@Braxton_Fely, DL). Timpview HS (Orem, Utah, 3-2) fell to Skyridge 21-14.  Fely had four tackles (three solo) and 2.5 sacks. Season totals: five games; 30 tackles (29 solo), 14 tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, and 6.5 sacks.
  • Brooks Jones (@Brooks_Jones81, DE/TE). American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek, Arizona, 1-1) suffered their first loss of the season, falling at Saguara 20-14.  No stats yet recorded for Jones. Season totals: Two games, five tackles (three solo), two sacks.
  • Jarinn Kalama (@JarinnKalama, ATH). Wasatch HS (Heber City, Utah, 4-1) defeated Salem Hills 41-12.  Kalama had two receptions for 32 yards. Season totals: five games, 16 receptions for 264 yards and two touchdowns, one pass for 55 yards, six tackles.
  • Maika Kaufusi (@KaufusiMaika, S). Alta HS (Sandy, Utah, 3-2) defeated Davis 37-14.  Kaufusi is still out with an injury and is expected back in the next few weeks. Season totals: one game, four receptions for 238 yards and four touchdowns, four tackles (three solo), and a forced fumble.
  • Parker Kingston (QB). Roy HS (Ogden, Utah, 3-2) fell to West 19-8. Kingston was 4-for-8 passing for 69 yards and a touchdown and rushed five times for three yards. Season totals: Five games, 19-of-39 passing for 337 yards and five touchdowns (zero interceptions), 39 carries for 356 yards and five touchdowns, two kickoff returns for 129 yards and one touchdown, 1 punt return for 10 yards, five tackles (four solo), one pass defended.
  • Liutai Kinikini (WR/LB). West HS (Salt Lake City, Utah, 3-1) defeated Roy 19-8. Kinikini recorded one tackle. Season totals: four games, 14 tackles (six solo), one pass defended.
  • Noah Moeaki (@noah_moeaki, TE/OLB). American Fork HS (American Fork, Utah, 4-0) defeated Bingham 41-13. Moeaki had two touchdowns but no other stats have yet been recorded. Season totals: four games, nine receptions for 139 yards and five touchdowns, seven tackles (two solo), one tackle for loss, one sack.
  • Trevin Ostler (@OstlerTrevin, ATH). Bountiful HS (Bountiful, Utah, 2-2) defeated Woods Cross 15-6. Stats not yet recorded. Season totals: through first three games, eight tackles (three solo), two tackles for loss, one sack.
  • Cooper Ross (@CooperJRoss, TE). Heritage Academy (Mesa, Arizona).  Ross had five receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns on offense, and had two tackles, a sack and a 15 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown on defense. Season totals: five receptions for 107 yards, two touchdowns, two tackles, one sack, one 15 yard fumble recovery for touchdown.
  • Vae Soifua (@vae_soifua, OL). Orem HS (Orem, Utah, 3-2) fell to Las Vegas’s Desert Pines 53-42. Soifua recorded no stats. Season totals: five games, no stats.
  • Talin Togiai (@TogiaiTalin, OT/DT). Rigby HS (Rigby, ID, 3-0) defeated Skyline 28-14. No stats. Season totals: three games, no stats.
  • Micah Wilson (@Micah_Wilson11, LB). Corner Canyon HS (Draper, Utah, 5-0) continued to show their dominance, defeating Lehi on the road 52-7.  Wilson had three tackles (two solo) and a 26 yard pick six.  His younger brother Isaac (a 2024 recruit) also had an outstanding game, throw just three times but completing all three for a whopping 128 yards and three touchdowns (and a 177.1 quarterback rating). Corner Canyon is currently ranked no. 16 nationally by Max Preps. Season totals: four games, 26 tackles (15 solo), three tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, one sack, and one interception for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Class of 2024 Commits

  • Easton Baker (@BakerEaston, LB). Stansbury HS (Tooele, Utah, 3-2).  Stansbury defeated Hillcrest 61-0. In the first half Baker had seven tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble scoop and score for a 45 yard touchdown. Season totals: four games, 40 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovered for a 45 yard touchdown.
