BYU football Prep Tracker 2022: Week 1

There are 15 verbal commits to the BYU football program: 11 players committed as part of the Class of 2023, three in the Class of 2024, and one in the Class of 2025.  Here’s how they did last weekend in high school football:

Utah Prep Football

Top Performers during week one include:

  • Miles Hall (WR/DB, Skyline) had three touchdown receptions, 116 receiving yards, and nine tackles in Skylines dominating win over Juan Diego.
  • Ryder Burton (QB, Springville) had two rushing touchdowns (passing not yet available) and teammate Dallin Johnson (DT, Springville, c/o 24) had 4.5 tackles for loss in Springville’s 41-14 victory over Dixie.
  • New commit Owen Borg (LB, Corner Canyon) had a great start to the season with seven tackles and an interception for Corner Canyon. They face nationally ranked Bishop Gorman this weekend in Las Vegas.
  • Pokai Haunga (WR, Timpview) had a 37-yard touchdown reception for Timpview as well as a sack and an interception on defense.
  • Easton Baker (LB, Stansbury) had four tackles in Stansbury’s 72-13 victory over Pine View.

Owen Borg (LB, Class of 2023)

This week: Corner Canyon (UT, 1-0) defeated Herriman on the road 45-7.  Borg had seven tackles and an interception to lead the defense (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: Seven tackles, one interception.

Ryder Burton (QB, Class of 2023)

This Week: Springville (Utah 4A, 1-0) defeated Dixie on the road, 41-14.  Burton had two rushing touchdowns of three and eight yards.  Passing stats not yet available (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Dallin Johnson (DT, Class of 2024).

This Week: Springville (Utah 4A, 1-0) defeated Dixie on the road, 41-14.  Johnson had 4.5 tackles for loss. (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Matthew Fredrick (TE/DE, Class of 2023).

Miles Hall (ATH, Class of 2023)

This Week: Skyline (Utah, 1-0) defeated Juan Diego 55-7 in their home opener. Hall had touchdown receptions for 26, 45, and 45 yards, with 116 total yards and nine tackles. (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Pokai Haunga (WR, Class of 2023).

This Week: Timpview (Utah, 1-0) defeated the defending state champion Lone Peak 31-10 in their home opener. Haunga had a 37-yard touchdown reception, a sack, and an interception (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Arizona Prep Football

There are two BYU football commits from Arizona: tight end Jackson Bowers from Mountain View, and linebacker Pierson Watson from Coconino.  Prep football starts the first week of September for Arizona schools.

There are two BYU football commits from Texas: running back Landen Chambers (Fossil Ridge), and athlete Saimone Davis (North Texas). Texas football starts the last week of August.
