BYU’s first two games of the season will air on FS1 and FOX against Arizona and Utah.
A few more television games have been announced for BYU with the first two weeks of their season now set with the release of the Pac-12’s early season scheduled. The opener on a loaded Saturday Sept. 3 will feature the Cougars taking on the Arizona Wildcats in Glendale, Arizona, and that game will kick at 8:30 p.m. MT and air on Fox Sports 1.
The following week is against rival Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium and this game will be on broadcast television on FOX with kick off at 5:30 p.m. MT. Having the Holy War air on free television shows that this rivalry game is not just a big deal between the Utes and Cougars but there is national interest as well.
These two played in the Las Vegas Bowl back in December on ABC and the ratings were a three-year high for the game with a 2.2 final rating and 3.7 million viewers tuning into a game that started out with Utah racing away to a 35-0 first quarter lead and holding off a fierce BYU rally to win, 35-28. The local ratings were also huge as the Salt Lake market measured 23.8 rating.
There are lines for both of these games between Arizona and Utah and they are expected to be close contests. The Cougars are a 2.5-point favorite over the Wildcats but a 7.5-point road underdog to the Utes.
This gives four GAMES locked in for the BYU television schedule. The other two games are the home game vs. Mississippi State on Friday Oct. 14 which will air on ESPN or ESPN2 (time still TBD), and then the other game is on Thursday Oct. 20 at Boise State which kicks at 8:15 p.m. MT and airs on ESPN.
