Local Basketball Player with Once-In-A-Lifetime Shot

In all the excitement of finally finding out which two teams will be battling it out in Super Bowl XLIX, you may have missed a story that hits a bit more close to home.

On January 16th, the Provo Bulldogs took on the Timpview Thunderbirds in good ‘ol Friday night high school basketball. The game was basket for basket as the clock winded down, proving to be a game that didn’t allow for mistakes. And then it happened. The game defining mistake. A lapse in the Bulldog’s defense allowed the Thunderbirds the chance to hit that crucial, nail in the coffin, three pointer – the one that would give them lead 59-58 with 5 seconds left.

The Bulldogs had two choices. Give up or give it their all. The latter is just what senior Hunter Bailey did. The Bulldogs got the ball in Bailey’s hands off the inbound pass, he sprinted down court, overcoming the Thunderbird’s defense, and fired the ball towards the basket with his toes behind the 3.

It was a banked shot. And it went in.

What a finish! Provo's Hunter Bailey BANKS in the game-winner as time expires! Provo beats Timpview, 61-59. #uvpreps

Now maybe the game wasn’t at the same scale as the NFL playoffs, but to Bailey and the rest of the Bulldogs, it was a once in a lifetime moment and epitomized what sports are all about: giving each moment everything you got.
