Despite recent setbacks, the Pac-12 is gearing up for a revival by adding four new schools to its lineup in 2026. It was announced Thursday that Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, and Fresno State will depart the Mountain West Conference to join the Pac-12 starting in the 2026-27 academic year.
The additions come after a series of high-profile departures left the Pac-12 with only two remaining members: Oregon State and Washington State. To meet the NCAA’s requirement of at least eight schools for a conference, the Pac-12 will need to add two more institutions.
The move signals an effort to rebuild the conference after a tumultuous period, as the new schools bring competitive football programs and loyal fan bases. Pac-12 officials are optimistic that these changes will help stabilize and rejuvenate the storied conference.
