Former University of Michigan football players Braylon Edwards, Denard Robinson, Mike Martin, and Shawn Crable are suing the NCAA and Big Ten Network for allegedly losing money over their names, images, and likenesses during their college careers. The lawsuit, seeking $50 million, represents all former Michigan football players who competed for the university before 2016. The players claim they should be compensated for the use of their images in broadcasts, advertisements, and merchandising without receiving any form of compensation. The lawsuit aims to rectify the exploitation of the players’ name, image, and likeness and ensure fair compensation for past and future uses. The NCAA has allowed student-athletes to profit off their name, image, and likeness since July 1, 2021, but a $2.78 billion settlement agreement for current and former student-athletes hit a potential snag recently.
