On Sunday, February 25th BYU women’s basketball guard Ari Mackey-Williams was baptized and became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, per her Instagram post on Sunday, February 25th.
BYU’s Mission Statement states that ” The mission of Brigham Young University — founded, supported, and guided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — is to assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life.”
Mackey-Williams said in her Instagram post, “Growing up around the church I always felt a special connection to it. Having the opportunity to be here at BYU has helped me grow my testimony and gain a stronger relationship with our Heavenly Father. This evening I was able to finally become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. So many people to thank for coming and making this day special! I know that Heavenly Father loves each and every one of us and has a plan for us all.”
The 5-foot-9 Junior guard played a pivotal role in BYU head coach Amber Whiting’s first year, as she appeared in all 32 games (starting 24) in the 2022-23 season, averaging 30.3 minutes a game. Mackey-Williams averaged 8.8 points per game on 41 percent shooting.
The Junior missed this season with a torn ACL but will return for the 2024-25 season.
