24 Former BYU Cougars take NFL snaps this weekend: BYU Football Pro Tracker Preseason, Week 1

BYU currently has more former players fighting for roster spots in the NFL than at any other time this century.  24 former BYU football players got NFL snaps this weekend with another four players under contract being held out of games for various reasons. And while it’s highly unlikely that all 28 players make their teams’ final 53-man rosters it sure is fun to see so many fighting for that opportunity.

Here’s how the Cougars did.

Standout Performances for Preseason Week 1

The two quarterbacks got the headlines this weekend and both of them played well.  Zach Wilson made the most of his NFL debut going 6-for-9 for 63 yards and putting the Jets in position to score the opening field goal.  Taysom Hill threw a pick, but he went 8-for-12 passing for 81 yards and looked confident in the QB1 role.

Some exceptional performances came from under-the-radar rookies Isaiah Kaufusi, Ty’Son Williams, and Dax Milne.  Kaufusi had five tackles and a fourth down tackle for loss for the Colts, while Williams had 42 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving for the Ravens.  Milne caught two passes for 16 yards and hard an impressive 19 yard punt return.
