BYU commits DeVries, Fely, and Baker turn in big-time performances: BYU Football Prep Tracker Week 3

There were three BYU commits that really stood out Friday night in prep football.

Braxton Fely now leads the state of Utah with 13 tackles for loss after another huge game Friday night when Timpview defeated Crimson Cliffs on the road 30-25.  Fely had 11 tackles, six tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Another notable performances came from Cannon DeVries who had another big game for Weber in their first win.  He finished with two rushes for 26 yards and two touchdowns as well as three receptions for 73 yards and another score, with seven tackles.

Finally, sophomore linebacker Easton Baker (BYU commit, class of 2024) had a huge game for Stansbury with ten tackles (eight solo), two forced fumbles, and a sack in a loss to Logan.

Here is a breakdown for each of the BYU commits:

Class of 2022 Commits

Kaden Chidester (@Kaden_Chid, ATH).  Richfield HS (Richfield, Utah, 0-3) is off to a rough start, falling to Payson 13-0 in Week 3.  But you can’t blame Chidester, who did all he could in the loss.  Chidester lined up at offensive tackle, defensive end, defensive tackle, and outside linebacker.  He blocked a PAT, had two blocked passes, a quarterback hurry and two tackles. Season totals: three games, four tackles, two blocked passes, one quarterback hurry, one blocked PAT.

Cannon DeVries (@CannonDevries, WR/FS). Weber HS (Pleasant View, Utah, 1-2) picked up their first win of the season with a dominating performance over Bonneville, 61-28.  DeVries was a big reason for the victory, with two rushes for 26 yards and two touchdowns, three receptions for 73 yards and another score, and seven tackles. Season totals: 14 receptions for 233 yards and three touchdowns, three carries for 29 yards and two touchdowns, 128 return yards, 25 tackles, and one tackle for loss.

Peter Falaniko (@FalanikoPeter, OL). Pine View HS (St. George, Utah, 3-0) defeated Park City 49-35.  As an offensive lineman Falaniko isn’t going to show up on the stat sheet, but he definitely showed up in this game.  Check out his highlights below to see him flatten several opposing players. Season totals: three games, no stats.

Brooks Jones (@Brooks_Jones81, DE/TE). American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek, Arizona).  Season starts on September 3rd.

Jarinn Kalama (@JarinnKalama, ATH). Wasatch HS (Heber City, Utah, 2-1) fell to Mountain Ridge 40-30.  Kalama caught six passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Season totals: three games, 14 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns.

Maika Kaufusi (@KaufusiMaika, S). Alta HS (Sandy, Utah, 1-2) fell to Highland 26-13.  Kaufusi is out with an injury and is expected back in the next few weeks. Season totals: one game, four receptions for 238 yards and four touchdowns, four tackles (three solo), and a forced fumble.

Liutai Kinikini (WR/LB). West HS (Salt Lake City, Utah, 1-1) did not play this week. Season totals: two games, nine tackles (five solo), one pass defended.

Noah Moeaki (@noah_moeaki, LB). American Fork HS (American Fork, Utah, 2-0) did not play. Season totals: two games, nine receptions for 160 yards and three touchdowns, three tackles (two solo), one tackle for loss, one sack

Trevin Ostler (@OstlerTrevin, ATH). Bountiful HS (Bountiful, Utah, 1-1) lost at Springville 19-10. Ostler recorded three tackles. Season totals: two games, six tackles.

Cooper Ross (@CooperJRoss, TE). Heritage Academy (Mesa, Arizona).  Season starts on September 10th.

Vae Soifua (@vae_soifua, OL). Orem HS (Orem, Utah, 3-0) easily defeated Pleasant Grove on the road 42-16. Soifua recorded no stats. Season totals: three games, no stats.

Micah Wilson (@Micah_Wilson11, LB). Corner Canyon HS (Draper, Utah, 3-0) defeated Bingham 35-7.  Wilson had six tackles (three solo), and three quarterback hurries. Corner Canyon is currently ranked no. 23 nationally by Max PrepsSeason totals: three games, 20 tackles (11 solo), two tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries, and one sack.

Class of 2024 Commits

Easton Baker (@BakerEaston, LB). Stansbury HS (Tooele, Utah, 1-2).  Stansbury lost at Logan 37-27. Baker had 10 tackles (eight solo), two forced fumbles, and a sack in the loss. Season totals: three games, 22 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles.
