BYU Football Prep Tracker Week 2: OL commit Soifua dominates in blowout

In week two of prep action several BYU football commits had dominating performances in lopsided victories.  Braxton Fely had a huge game with eight tackles, six tackles for loss, and a 10 yard sack.  Jarinn Kalama and Noah Moeaki both had two touchdown receptions in blowout wins, while Micah Wilson had eight tackles and a sack in Corner Canyon’s 42-7 victory over East.

The BYU Insider player of the Week was Vae Soifua who was simply dominant on the offensive line as Orem destroyed rival Mountain View 68-0 (see game film below).  Last week’s Player of the Week Maika Kaufusi led the nation in reception yards.  Unfortunately, he suffered a minor injury and will be out for a few weeks.

Here is a breakdown for each individual performance:

  • Kaden Chidester (@Kaden_Chid, ATH). Richfield HS (Richfield, Utah, 0-2) lost to North Sevier 14-20.  Chidester lined up at offensive tackle, nose guard, and defensive tackle in the loss and recorded no stats.
  • Cannon DeVries (@CannonDevries, WR/FS). Weber HS (Pleasant View, Utah, 0-2) was defeated at American Fork 14-45. DeVries had seven receptions for 98 yards including an 83 yard touchdown grab.  He also had seven tackles and one pass breakup.  Season totals: 11 receptions for 162 yards and two touchdowns, 128 return yards, 18 tackles, one pass breakup, and one tackle for loss.
  • Peter Falaniko (@FalanikoPeter, OL). Pine View HS (St. George, Utah) defeated defeated Highland 35-0 in week 2. Falaniko recorded no stats for the game.
  • Braxton Fely (@Braxton_Fely, DL). Timpview HS (Orem, Utah) defeated Kearns on the road 54-0. Fely had eight tackles, six tackles for loss, and a 10 yard sack.  Season totals: 13 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss, two quarterback hurries, and one sack.
  • Brooks Jones (@Brooks_Jones81, DE/TE). American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek, Arizona). Season starts next week.
  • Jarinn Kalama (@JarinnKalama, ATH). Wasatch HS (Heber City, Utah, 2-0) defeated Mountain Crest on the road 51-3. Kalama had two touchdown receptions in the win.  Season totals: seven receptions for 49 yards, three touchdowns
  • Maika Kaufusi (@KaufusiMaika, S). Alta HS (Sandy, Utah, 1-1) fell to Westlake 13-27. After leading the nation in reception yards in week 1, Kaufusi was forced to sit out week two with a minor injury.  He is expected to return in a few weeks. Season totals: four receptions for 238 yards and four touchdowns, four tackles (three solo), and a forced fumble.
  • Liutai Kinikini (WR/LB). West HS (Salt Lake City, Utah, 1-1) fell at Herriman, 20-32. Kinikini had five tackles (three solo) and a pass defended in the loss. Season totals: nine tackles (five solo), one pass defended.
  • Noah Moeaki (@noah_moeaki, LB). American Fork HS (American Fork, Utah, 2-0) defeated Weber 45-14 in week two action. Moeaki had six receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns and a tackle in the win. Season totals: two games, nine receptions for 160 yards and three touchdowns, three tackles (two solo), one tackle for loss, one sack
  • Trevin Ostler (@OstlerTrevin, ATH). Bountiful HS (Bountiful, Utah, 1-0) defeated Farmington 21-17 to start off their season. Oster played OLT, DT, and DE and recorded no stats.  Season totals: two games, no stats.
  • Cooper Ross (@CooperJRoss, TE). Heritage Academy (Mesa, Arizona). Season doesn’t start for another two weeks.
  • Vae Soifua (@vae_soifua, OL). Orem HS (Orem, Utah, 2-0) defeated Mountain View 68-0. Soifua only played two quarters, but simply dominated the line in the win.
  • Micah Wilson (@Micah_Wilson11, LB). Corner Canyon HS (Draper, Utah, 2-0) defeated East 42-7 Friday night. Wilson had eight tackles and a sack in the win. Corner Canyon is currently ranked no. 23 nationally by Max Preps.
