The most intriguing comment from Rondo came at about the 10:00 mark of the interview:
You don’t know about this, but Kansas has [quietly] reached out and talked about hitching the relevance of Kansas basketball and Kansas basketball tradition, and BYU basketball and BYU basketball tradition.
Well now. That’s some juicy insider news.
What does this mean? Well at worst if could just mean a scheduling possibility for BYU hoops. But in light of all the news about the Big12 looking to expand for real this time, and BYU being at the top of the list, it seems entirely feasible that Kansas is just doing its part to help recruit BYU to the conference. If so, we can throw out the notion of a football-only membership for BYU. Kansas hoops recruiting BYU hoops would mean the Big12 sees BYU as a potential full member.
It’s all circumstantial evidence of course. But you gotta admit, it’s juicy circumstantial evidence. More and more signs are pointing to the idea that the Big12 is serious about recruiting BYU this time. And if so, odds seem pretty decent that it will work.
