Opening Segment:
Criddle: “I sit and watch dateline with my girlfriend and every episode is about someone getting poisoned in their coffee so now it’s making me very wary of my girlfriend.”
Criddle: “There was another time that I watched a lifetime movie about a kid who got kidnapped in the desert. I was leaving an AFL game with my Dad and we were kind of in the middle of no where and it started freaking me out.”
Criddle: “Harvey Jackson was invited to go and try out for the Jacksonville Jaguars.”
Criddle: “I expected a little bit more out of Harvey Jackson at Pro Day.”
Logan: “You can’t teach what he has with his height and weight. He has some great measurables.”
Criddle: “Bob Bowlsby has stated that the Big 12 will not be adding a conference championship game.”
Criddle: “They aren’t going to add anyone because it’s all about the money.”
How We See It:
Logan: “I’d rather have draft picks. If you’re getting multiple draft picks and you’re known for having a pipeline, you get better recruits.”
Criddle: “Garrett Bolles said that he wants to go to the league.”
Criddle: “I had a friend who was a third string DB at UNLV and he said that he was getting ready to go to the league.”
Criddle: “If you put collegiate talent into the NFL, you’re going to get more talent coming in here.”
Criddle: “For some kids, it’s more about the individual then it is about the team.”
Criddle: “You can get a lot of added revenue by going to a NY6 game and you can spend it on anything you want.”
Logan: “I’ll take a little less money to go to a school that puts more kids in the NFL.”
Logan: “On a Thursday or Friday night during Football season, you’re bored out of your mind cause the Kardashians don’t come on till Sunday so you’re watching that game it doesn’t matter if it’s Montana St or if it’s Florida St.”
4:30 Segment:
Criddle: “Bob Bowlsby said that the Big 12 has had too many situations where the higher ranked team lost in the championship and they lost out on going to a BCS bowl.”
Criddle: “How does a conference commissioner bounce back and forth so much?”
Criddle: “Last week he said that they were going to have one and now he’s completely backed off of that statement.”
Criddle: “The Big 12 is so unstable right now, I don’t know that BYU wants to join that conference.”
Criddle: “The leader is flip flopping back and forth, AD’s have no idea what they’re doing.”
Mauss: “I think it’s stable because of the TV deals.”
Criddle: “Even if BYU is in the Big 12 they’re not going to run the table and go to the CFP or NY6, but they do get a bigger chunk of money.”
Logan: “I think that going to the Big 12 means that you accomplish a goal of yours and you finally arrive.”
Cougar Insider Report:
Criddle: “BYU has a great signee from the Class of 2015 right out of Utah County. Easton Walker from Pleasant Grove.”
Criddle: “Walker was the #1 pitcher for PG for Pleasant Grove for 4 years and went 9-0 with 99 strikeouts his junior year.”
Hicken: “I had an opportunity to play with Easton my senior year and he’s a great pickup for Coach Littlewood.”
Hicken: “He took some bumps as a freshman but I could tell at the time that he had it. He comes from a great baseball family, his Dad played at Utah and he has two brothers who’ve played D1 ball at Utah and UNLV.”
Dick Harmon Interview:
Logan: “When I used to do interviews with Dick, I was very professional with him.”
Harmon: “I don’t know that I’ve heard excuses out of BYU Football coaches.”
Harmon: “If you go through the process where you have kids who come in and play 4 straight years with their recruiting class they may produce more talent.”
Harmon: “But now, the majority of kids, 85%, are going on missions. More and more aren’t practicing, lifting, or working on those skills, Now I sound like an excuse maker.”
Harmon: “In the last 18 months, BYU has done a better job with recruiting and I think they’ll see the benefits of that in a few years.”
Harmon: “They could be setting themselves up to have 5 draft picks over the next 2 years.”
Harmon: “BYU took college football completely by surprise when they started throwing the ball.”
Harmon: “BYU had their first bowl win in 1980 and they weren’t paying a ton of money as a coach.”
Harmon: “Coaches back then were seen as a gym teacher and they really weren’t paid a ton. They were kind of nomads who went from job to job trying to hang on.”
Criddle: “The ACC got lucky with Florida State being as talented as they did. I think the Big 12 looks at the ACC and thinks that they would beat out a one-loss ACC team.”
Harmon: “Baylor has an absolute joke of a nonconference schedule.”
Logan: “I know with BYU and finances, the money has to be available before they move forward on anything.”
Criddle: “I think there’s plenty of money at BYU, but I don’t think it’s budgeted properly.”
Logan: “I don’t agree, I think it’s budgeted exactly where it needs to go.”
5:30 Segment:
Criddle: “I feel that the Big 12 AD’s think that they will have better resumes than teams from the ACC and they’ll be that 4th team.”
Criddle: “In 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2007 the Big 12’s CCG bit them in the butt because the favorite lost.”
Criddle: “Anyone can beat anyone at any time, Utah beat an Alabama team because they didn’t come in ready to play. They had some injuries and suspensions.”
Criddle: “Do you remember JD Falslev got obliterated by the Texas gunner. That game was so poorly officiated.”
Criddle: “It sounds like there’s a fear that they aren’t going to get that CCG anyway.”
Logan: “So what they need to do if strengthened up their non-conference.”
Criddle: “I bet up in Big 12 country they are panicking, they are up in arms because they have no idea what is going on.”
Jeremiah Jensen Interview:
Jensen: “Talking to a few local recruits, the extra money isn’t as big of a deal that you might think.”
Jensen: “For BYU, I think it’s vital for them to be competitive to have a higher number than anywhere else.”
Jensen: “BYU may not currently be a P5, but they’re paying P5 money.”
Jensen: “One of the top recruits out of the state is probably going to be Heimuli-Lund. He thought the money was nice but it’s not the most important thing.”
Logan: “I heard that big name schools like USC where some kids have gotten paid under the table, they may be getting some extra money and get caught.”
Jensen: “Right, let’s be real. If guys are going to get caught, there are guys who aren’t going to be getting caught.”
Jensen: “The Big 12 has always wanted to keep things to themselves and they’re still sticking to their guns.”
Jensen: “Let’s be honest, the Big 12 is run by Texas, that league goes as Texas goes.”
Jensen: “To be blunt, I think that Lavell recruited and had better players than Bronco has had.”
Jensen: “A lot of times in the past, Bronco has been very open about how he doesn’t care about players going to the NFL.”
Jensen: “I think his opinion has changed since Ziggy was drafted and he saw how much it did for the program when he was drafted.”
Jensen: “I thought that there were some guys who should’ve been drafted. Alani Fua and Jordan Leslie were talented enough to be drafted, but they weren’t.”
Jensen: “Give credit to Utah, they’ve done a great job building relationships with scouts and developing a pipeline for more guys to come in.”
Jensen: “Bronco has been more open to letting some more scouts coming into practice and doing more to build those relationships.”
Criddle: “I want to know why there hasn’t been an auto tune rap of Bronco yet.”
6:30 Segment:
Criddle: “I’ll be honest, Bronco has laughed a lot more in the last year with the media then he did before.”
Logan: “I got the nickname Bronco’s son when I missed a team meeting where he was giving out helmet stickers. I show up to a DB meeting and Bronco walks in and my eyes are wide open and he goes, ‘Hey, you didn’t get this. Good job this week.'”
Logan: “I don’t know if fans know this, but I used to walk around with a full beard and my earrings in and no one said anything.”
Logan: “During spring lifting I’m with Brian, Corby, and Brandon and I have a full on beard while Brandon has some stubble. Bronco looks at Brandon and he goes, ‘Brandon, you signed the honor code. You need to obey it and shave that before practice starts or the whole secondary will be running.'”
Criddle: “Most guys that play for Bronco really like him. There are a select few who don’t.”
Logan: “I don’t get those guys who don’t like him.”
Criddle: “I think guys like Cody and Kyle were upset because they weren’t leaders on the team. Bronco said along the lines that we have some great playmakers, but we don’t have great leaders.'”
Random Thoughts:
Logan: “I was pretty upset that we didn’t have any players get drafted. There were a lot of guys from D2 schools getting taken in the 7th round.”
Logan: “I think one thing that’s good is that BYU can say that 9 guys were given opportunities to go and play at the next level this year.”
Logan: “You slowly build up, you get some 6th and 7th rounders, then get some guys in the 4th and 5th, and before you know it you got some KVN’s and Ziggy’s going in the 1st and 2nd round.”
