BYU adds another Big Ten to the schedule and extends series with Utah.
Ever since the Big 12 decided against expanding it was only a matter of time before BYU would make some announcements about future schedules. There have been a pair of announcements in as many days with first being a home-and-home with Minnesota for 2020 and 2025.
The Cougars and Golden Gophers are scheduled to meet at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Sept. 26, 2020, with the second game scheduled for Sept. 20, 2025, at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.
“We’re excited to announce this series with Minnesota,” BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe said. “We are always looking for opportunities to schedule storied football programs like Minnesota. It will be a great experience for our coaches, players and fans to visit Big Ten country and we look forward to hosting the Gophers at LaVell Edwards Stadium.”
The second game is a more important game and the extension with the Utah series that makes this game an annual matchup through 2022. If you like very close games and exciting finishes then extending this series against Utah is great for that.
“BYU-Utah is one of the great college rivalries in the country. There’s a lot of history and tradition between the two schools and I’m glad we were able to extend the series through 2022,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “I’ve loved this rivalry as a player, coach and administrator, and look forward to the future games.”

- Nov. 24, 2018 – Salt Lake City
- Aug. 29, 30 or 31, 2019 – Provo
- Sept. 3, 4 or 5, 2020 – Salt Lake City
- Sept. 11, 2021 – Provo
- Sept. 3, 2022 – Salt Lake City
The one downside to this series is that outside of that 2018 matchup every other game is early in the season, but having it the first week of the season also brings a lot of excitement to opening up the year where it very likely could be a marquee game as some early out-of-conference games have been bad.
