BYU picked up a big commitment from former Utah State LB AJ Vongphachanh.

Vongphachanh a 6-3, 230-pound Outside Linebacker originally from Pasco, WA. Committed to Utah State out of high school on Feb. 3, 2019. The decision came down to BYU, Minnesota, South Carolina and Washington State. Vongphachanh will look to make an immediate impact to help bolster BYU’s depth on defense as they head into the Big 12 conference.

Vongphachanh is coming off of his best season in his four years with the Aggies. In 2022, he tallied 101 tackles, 10.5 TFL’s and 2 sacks. In an interview with 24/7 Sports Vongphachanh said that his decision was ultimately made easier with the hiring of LB Coach Justin Ena at BYU. Kalani Sitake and the Cougars will have to continue to build depth throughout the spring and summer leading into fall camp to bolster the roster for what will be a brutal inaugural season in the Big 12.
