BYU football Prep Tracker 2022: Week 3

There are 17 verbal commits to the BYU football program: 13 players committed as part of the Class of 2023, three in the Class of 2024, and one in the Class of 2025.  Here’s how they did this weekend in high school football:

Top Performers

The top BYU recruits in Utah and Texas this weekend included:

  • Two-way standout Miles Hall had an incredible performance for Skyline, recording five receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown, with 20 tackles (nine solo), two tackles for loss, a pass defended, and a forced fumble
  • Recruiting target Smith Snowden had a monster performance in Skyridge’s shutout of Herriman (43-0).  He had just one tackle because they wouldn’t throw the ball anywhere near him, and when they finally did, he made them pay with two interceptions returned 77 yards.
  • Texas football also got under way this weekend and Class of 2023 commit Landon Chambers picked back up where he left off last year.  The senior running back had 26 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns as well as four receptions for 45 yards.

Owen Borg (LB, Class of 2023)

This week: Corner Canyon (UT 6A, 2-1) defeated Bingham on the road 38-28.  Borg missed the game with health concerns but will be back in-action soon (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals:  In two games Borg has 17 tackles (11 solo), one interception.

Ryder Burton (QB, Class of 2023)

This Week: Springville (Utah 4A, 3-0) defeated Bountiful on the road, 18-17.  Burton had three touchdown passes (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: In two games Burton is 17-of-31 passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns to one interception.  Nine carries for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Dallin Johnson (DT, Class of 2024).

This Week: Springville (Utah 4A, 3-0) defeated Bountiful on the road, 18-17.  Johnson’s stats are not yet available (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: In two games Johnson has 10 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups

Matthew Fredrick (TE/DE, Class of 2023).

This Week: East (Utah 5A, 1-2) defeated Fremont 43-10. Fredrick had two receptions for 30 yards (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: In three games Fredrick has two receptions for 30 yards.

Miles Hall (ATH, Class of 2023)

This Week: Skyline (Utah 5A, 2-1) defeated Post Falls 35-17. Hall had five receptions for 169 yards (33.8 ypr) and a touchdown. On defense he amassed 20 total tackles (nine solo), with two tackles for loss, one pass defended, and a forced fumble (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: In three games Hall has 13 receptions for 327 yards and five touchdowns, one carry for zero yards, and two kickoff returns for 34 yards.  On defense he has 39 tackles (18 solo), two passes defended, one forced fumble, and two tackles for loss

Pokai Haunga (WR, Class of 2023).

This Week: Timpview (Utah 5A, 3-0) defeated Crimson Cliffs 49-14 on the road. Haunga had seven solo tackles and one tackle for loss (MaxPreps, Deseret News).
Season Totals: In three games Haunga has 25 tackles (25 solo), four tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.  On offense he has one 37-yard touchdown reception.

Stanley Raass (DL, Class of 2023).

This Week: Skyridge (Utah 6A, 3-0) defeated Herriman 43-0. Raass’s stats are not yet available (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Easton Baker (LB, Class of 2024).

This Week: Stansbury (Utah, 3-0) defeated Skyline 68-42. Baker had six tackles (three solo) and two tackles for loss (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Adney Reid (ATH, Class of 2024)

This Week: Reid competed for Spanish Fork as a Freshman but is currently living in Australia where his parents are serving as mission president. He is not playing American football currently (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Will Walker (K/P, Class of 2025).

This Week: Riverton (Utah 6A, 2-1) defeated Cyprus 56-6 on the road. Walker was injured in the preseason and will be out for a few more weeks (MaxPreps, Deseret News).

Texas Prep Football

There are two BYU football commits from Texas: running back Landen Chambers (Fossil Ridge), and athlete Saimone Davis (North Texas). Texas football starts the last week of August.

Landen Chambers (RB, Class of 2023).

This Week: Fossil Ridge (Texas, 1-0) won its home opener over Flower Mound 37-21.  Chambers had 26 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and four receptions for 45 yards. (MaxPreps).

Saimone Davis (ATH, Class of 2023).

This Week: Davis transferred from Nolan Catholic this year to Colleyville Heritage. Colleyville Heritage (Texas, 1-0) defeated Nimitz 61-5 in their home opener. Davis had two receptions for 18 yards (MaxPreps).

Arizona Prep Football

There are two BYU football commits from Arizona: tight end Jackson Bowers from Mountain View, and linebacker Pierson Watson from Coconino.  Prep football starts the first week of September for Arizona schools.
