As of Friday there were 20 former BYU athletes listed on active NFL rosters. Here is how each of them performed in the third week of the 2022 NFL preseason. As well as which Cougars made it past the third and final NFL roster cuts of the preseason.
Standout Performances
Matt Bushman, Kansas City Chiefs
Bushman was on fire for the Chiefs in the third week of the preseason hauling in 3 receptions for 73 yards. Two of which ended up in the endzone. Unfortunately, Bushman sustained a broken clavicle on his final catch of the game and was later cut by the Chiefs with an injury designation.

Dax Milne, Washington Commanders
Milne has been a staple for the Commanders in the preseason and by far the most consistent performer among former BYU players. This week Milne hauled in 4 receptions for 37 yards. Milne has received high praise from Head Coach Ron Rivera in the past and has also been designated as the teams punt returner.

Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons
Tyler Allgeier solidified his spot on the Falcons 53 man roster this week, although there were never really doubts about whether he would make it or not. Allgeier found the endzone twice in week 3, once on the ground and once through the air.

Cougars That Missed the Cut
The third roster cut deadline of the 2022 NFL season was Tuesday. Each NFL team had to cut their rosters down from 80 to 53 by 4pm ET. Keep in mind that most of the players who are cut end up being re-signed to practice squads before the season starts. Here are the Cougars that didn’t make it past the first and second cuts.
Tomasi Laulile was the only former Cougar cut after week one.
Troy Warner and Kai Nacua were cut by their respective squads in week two.
Niel Pau’u, Zayne Anderson, Matt Bushman (with an injury designation) , James Empey, Harvey Langi, Samson Nacua, Chris Wilcox and Ty’Son Williams were all waived by their respective teams Tuesday.
Khyris Tonga was released by the Chicago Bears on Wednesday.
